Water less, water better
With summers getting drier, watering well matters as much as choosing the right plants. Five simple rules.

In the Empordà summers are long and dry, and in recent years drought has led to water restrictions. Good watering saves water and makes plants stronger.
Five rules - Water early in the morning or in the evening: far less evaporates. - Water deeply and less often rather than a little every day: roots grow deeper and the plant copes better. - Group plants by how much water they need: Mediterranean plants together, thirstier ones elsewhere. - Use drip irrigation for shrubs and beds, and keep sprinklers for the lawn. - Mulch the soil with bark, straw or gravel to cut evaporation.
Before you go away for a few days Check the timer and its batteries, make sure no drippers are blocked and give everything a deep watering the day before.
Always check the watering restrictions in force in your municipality.
